Information You Send
Search terms entered in a search box, such as a name, telephone number, or address, are sent to the provider operating that search function. Sumter Residents Directory does not keep a copy of those queries on its own servers. If you contact us, the message and contact details you choose to provide are used to respond.
Automatic Technical Data
Routine hosting logs can record an IP address, browser type, page request, referring page, and time of access. Those logs help maintain security and diagnose technical problems. Cookies or similar tools may be used for basic analytics or advertising measurement where offered.
How Information Is Used
Limited operational data is used to run, secure, measure, and improve the service. We do not sell visitor lists or create personal visitor profiles from the reference pages.
External Services
Links lead to County, City, State, library, archive, and third-party services. Their terms and privacy practices apply once you use their pages. That includes the sponsored search function, which is supplied by another provider rather than a Sumter government custodian.
Service Providers
Hosting and support providers may process ordinary server logs on our behalf. Analytics and advertising providers can receive the automatic information described above. Information may also be disclosed when valid legal process requires it.
Security Practices
We use reasonable safeguards appropriate to a small reference site and retain technical logs only for operational needs. No user account or visitor password is created by this website.
Visitors Under 18
The service is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly seek personal information from anyone under 18. Contact us if you believe a minor has sent information so it can be reviewed and removed where applicable.
Privacy Requests
Depending on where a visitor lives, they may be able to request access, correction, or deletion of personal information a site holds. South Carolina research for this project did not identify a general statewide consumer-privacy statute governing a broad data-removal right. Because we retain little visitor information, a request through the Contact page can be reviewed against the contact mailbox and relevant logs. Requests to correct government records belong with the Sumter or South Carolina custodian that owns the record.
Policy Changes
Any revision will be posted here. Continued use after publication of an updated policy indicates acceptance of that version.
